Mission Statement

Heart and Aesthetic – MDI (Marengo Design Inc.) is dedicated to infusing contemporary design with traditional Japanese elements. In addition, we seek to foster the reverence for nature that remains an integral part of Japanese living.

Marengo Design Inc. was incorporated in 1999 in the state of New York. The origin of our corporate name is a street in an attractive tree-lined residential neighborhood in Queens, NY. This neighborhood has continually sought to preserve nature and has unique town planning and winding roads without city sidewalks., Like the street in Queens with which we share our name, Marengo is the embodiment of singular contemporary design with a natural aesthetic. Unlike our namesake, however, our design and natural perspective are Japanese.

MDI is primarily an architectural and consulting firm. Since its inception, MDI projects have included both the commercial and residential on the East coast and Japan: Hoi An restaurant in Tribeca, NY, Margaret Kuo’s Japanese restaurant in Wayne, PA, Little residence, Japanese tearoom in Nantucket, MA, Schneidman residence, Asian spa room in Mount Kisco, NY, Nihon Medical Group offices in Midtown, Manhattan. In Japan, a MDI project was the Blue Note Jazz Club, Nagoya.MDI has consulted on both national and international projects such as the Tadao Ando exhibition in Scandinavia, the A/E/C systems trade show, and the Salon du Meuble de Paris convention.Our goal is to establish a truly prosperous, healthy future on the earth.
